Fundus photography is generally accomplished by using a special camera to photograph the internal structures of the eye.

  • optic nerve

  • blood vessels
 

Fundus photography may be reasonable and medically necessary in the following clinical situations

  • glaucoma
  • glaucoma suspect
  • other optic nerve disease
  • neuro-ophthalmic disease
  • disorders of the retina
  • disorders of the globe
  • disorders of the choroid
  • disorders of the visual pathways
  • neoplasm of the eye
  • systemic disease
  • high-risk medication affecting the retina
  • significant eye injury
